I thought this would be easy
Shows how much I know
It’s never quite that simple
Or how I thought it’d go
I’m dreaming of the bouquets of roses that they’ll throw
And handing out free tickets to the show
There’ll be music and dancing
And laughter and smiles
Daredevil stuntmen
And feminine wiles
Cheap pyrotechnics
Confetti for miles
They’ll roar in the grandstands
And faint in the isles
The mezzanine is burning
The balcony’s ablaze
The audience is ashes
The fire’s on the stage
I’m pointing out the exits but there’s no one left to save
At least there won’t be refunds to be paid
The curtain has fallen
And crumbled to dust
The theatre’s empty
The night was a bust
Popcorn and candy
And bloodstains and rust
I thought it’d be easy
But I think too much
